Prof. Emmanuel Yaw Benneh passes away

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the demise of Prof. Emmanuel Yaw Benneh, an affable, intelligent and hardworking Associate Professor at the University of Ghana, School of Law (UGSoL) which occurred on Friday, 11th September 2020.

He was an alumnus of the UGSoL and the University of Cambridge where he was awarded an MLitt in Law. Prof. Benneh joined UGSoL as a lecturer in 1990 where he taught Public International Law until his demise.

As a lecturer, Prof. Benneh pioneered the teaching of International Law, UN Law, International Humanitarian Law, Law of Diplomacy and International Institutions at the Ghana Armed Forces Command College from 2000 to 2009. He had great love for the law which was evident during his lectures and so it came as no surprise when he was awarded the 2009 Best Teacher for the Humanities, University of Ghana in 2010.

Prof. Benneh was a member of the Editorial Board of the University of Ghana Law Journal, the African Society of International and Comparative Law, the Ghana Bar Association, the Ghana Science Association and the Institute of International Negotiations and had not less than twenty (20) publications to his credit.

He consulted for international bodies including the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Prof. Emmanuel Yaw Benneh is survived by a son. He would be sorely missed.
