Thirteen UGSoL students receive awards from the Lebanese Business Community in Ghana

Thirteen students of the University of Ghana School of Law (UGSoL) have been presented with awards by the Lebanese Business Community in Ghana. This year’s ceremony, which took place on Thursday 10th September 2020 at the University of Ghana School of Law auditorium, commenced with an introductory speech by the Dean of the School of Law, Prof. Raymond Atuguba.

He welcomed the Lebanese Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Maher Kheir to the School of Law and expressed his delight and gratitude that in spite of the political, economic and security challenges being faced by Lebanon at the moment, the Lebanese Business Community in Ghana still endeavoured to maintain their generosity to the school. The Dean further proposed an enhanced scholarship scheme that would propagate over ninety law students benefiting in a year. The Acting Director of the Public Affairs Directorate, Ms. Eccles Andoh, reiterated Prof. Atuguba’s proposal and congratulated the awardees on their success.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Kheir first enunciated his delight to address the UGSoL community and then noted that the Lebanese Business Community recently awarded scholarships to students of the School of Languages, thus, in spite of the financial and political crisis plaguing the Lebanese government, its community in Ghana is willing to maintain its commitment to the School of Law. This partnership according to him is motivated by the people of Lebanon who share in Ghana’s diversity and cultural values.

In conclusion, the Lebanese Ambassador to Ghana extended his profound gratitude to the Ghanaian community for showing solidarity with Lebanon and its citizens as they count their losses after a series of tragic explosions. A cheque of GHS 15,470.00 was presented to the student beneficiaries.

The awardees included Batariwah Prosper, Nutakor Amanda, Dei-Tumi Emmanuel Junior, Ziwu Emmeline Mawulorm, Lassey Christine Selikem, Adongo Frederick Agaaya, Kyere Maureen, Bediako Martinson, Kwadjo Yeboah, Accorley Divine Esename, Boateng Julius, Mensah Eugenia Awusi and Gbedy Davina Seyram. Mr. Emmanuel Dei-Tumi Junior, on behalf of his colleagues, expressed his appreciation to the school and ambassadorial team for their benevolence.

Following its establishment in the year 2013, the Lebanese Business Community in Ghana Scholarship Awards has strived to encourage and appreciate hardworking University of Ghana School of Law students.

Amongst the key objectives of this initiative are the fostering of mutual relationships between the University of Ghana School of Law and the Lebanese business community in Ghana, as well as an overall relationship with the university community.  This scholarship award package covers mainly university tuition fees of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) mode entry of students. Over a span of seven years, ninety-two awards have been given to well deserving UG School of Law students.
