Dean's Welcome Message
In November 1993, I embarked on my journey here at the University of School of Law with excitement and uncertainty. Despite starting our LL.B programme amid a strike action by lecturers, and enduring another year-long strike halfway through our studies, my classmates and I persevered. Many of us utilized this hiatus to develop skills and serve our communities, demonstrating resilience that has become a hallmark of our alumni.
Your journey at the School of Law comes at an extraordinary time in history. The challenges we have all faced in the last couple of years have prepared you well for the academic, social, spiritual, and emotional demands of law school. At the University of Ghana School of Law, our primary goal is to provide a safe and productive teaching and learning environment. We also aim to expand our facilities and enhance the quality of education through international experiences and collaborations.
Our vision for the future is ambitious. Despite the challenges posed by our current economic hardships, we aim to transform UGSoL into a global leader in African legal education and scholarship. Key initiatives include:
- Ensuring nearly all our LLB students qualify for professional legal education.
- Launching a flexible Post First-Degree LLB programme.
- Increasing our student body to over 2,000, primarily graduate students.
- Expanding our faculty and staff to over a 100 each, improving quality and diversity and focusing on their job satisfaction.
- Growing our academic programmes from 6 to over 40, including a PhD programme.
- Establishing a vibrant research culture supported by innovative funding.
- Forming over 50 partnerships with leading global universities.
- Enhancing our digitization efforts and assistive technology for students with disabilities.
- Improving the learning environment for our students, including scholarships for needy students.
- Developing a state-of-the-art, multi-purpose law school building.
