About
Kenneth Ghartey is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Private Law, University of Ghana School of Law. Kenneth is a lawyer and a valuation and estate surveyor by training and is also licensed as an Insolvency Practitioner in Ghana by the Office of the Registrar of Companies, Ghana. He started his teaching career as a Lecturer in Law at Lancaster University Ghana where he later became, Law Programme Co-ordinator, Senior Lecturer and Head of the Law Department. He has significant corporate and commercial legal advisory and consulting experience. He has been involved in major transactions including a sovereign bond issue and a multi-million-dollar petroleum-related international arbitration. Kenneth was the sole Technical Consultant for the preparation of the text for the User Guides for recent Ghanaian company and insolvency legislation under the World Bank Group (IFC) Ghana Investment Climate Project. Kenneth is a recognised expert on the company and corporate insolvency law of Ghana and his work on directors’ duties has been read over 15,000 times on research websites. Kenneth has a keen interest and experience in providing training for professionals in the areas of his expertise.
Kenneth is an elected member of the Governing Council of the Chartered Institute of Restructuring and Insolvency Practitioners, Ghana created under CIRIP Ghana Act, 2024 (Act 1117). Kenneth was an Editor of the maiden volume of the Corporate Insolvency and Restructuring Journal hosted by CIRIP Ghana in 2023. He currently serves on the Steering Committee of the INSOL International Early Researchers Academics. He has also served on the Editorial Committee of the INSOL International I-Read Student Newsletter since 2023.
