Prof. Kwame Gyan is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Law, University of Ghana, and the current Head of Chambers of Kwame Gyan and Associates, a position he has held since 2000. He is a member of the Ghana Bar Association. He completed his LL.B. at the University of Ghana, Legon, and his professional law degree at the Ghana School of Law. Thereafter, he proceeded to do his Master of Laws (LL.M.), General Legal Studies at Temple University in Philadelphia, USA. He continued his pursuit of legal studies at the New York University School of Law, where he obtained another Master of Laws degree in International Legal Studies. Mr. Gyan is also a researcher with focus on Land Law, Tort Law and Natural Resources Law. He has authored, co-authored and published several research reports, journal articles and books. Some of his publications include “Compulsory Acquisition under Ghana's New Land Act: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly”, “A Historical Overview of Compulsory Acquisition of Land in Ghana”, “An Overview of Ghana's History of Mismanagement of Mineral Resources”, Cases and Materials on Customary Land Law of Ghana – Volume I (Customary Land Management) (revised edition) and Cases and Materials on Customary Land Law of Ghana – Volume II (Customary Land Management), among others. He has also consulted for the government of Ghana and several international organisations, including the International Union Conservation of Nature, the International Development Research Centre and Newmont Ghana Gold Limited. Having consulted for and held a number of positions in government, Mr. Gyan has vast experience in administration and governance. He was the Lead Consultant in 2011 for the Draft Lands Bill, a Lands Administration Project of the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources. He led the team that birthed the current Land Act, 2020 (Act 1036).
