The University of Ghana School of Law Training Programme

The University of Ghana School of Law (UGSoL) is organizing five short training courses from 16th May to 25th May, 2022. The aim of these courses is to provide participants with the requisite knowledge to address frequently encountered legal problems in the country.

These courses are open to members of the bench, the bar, governmental institutions, banking institutions and companies, non-governmental institutions, traditional authorities and the general public.

 

 

DATA PROTECTION

Personal data of participants will not be shared or disclosed to any third parties external to the University of Ghana. The UGSoL will process participants’ data in accordance with the Data Protection laws of Ghana.

Our training courses are taught in English so participants must have a good command of the language.

  • Introduction to Corporate Governance

  • Corporate Agency problems and incentives for sound insider behaviour

  • The linkages between sound corporate governance and business success

  • The scope of corporate governance under the new Companies Act, 2019 (Act 992)

  • Stakeholders, trustees and watchdogs in corporate governance

 

 

ALTERNATIVE DISPUTE RESOLUTION TECHNIQUES IN BUSINESS (to be scheduled)

  • Nature, causes and characteristics of workplace conflict

  • Early detection and prevention of workplace conflict

  • Alternative Dispute Resolution Processes

  • Issues associated with Alternative Dispute Resolution in an organization

 

Fundamental Concepts and Principles of Direct Tax Laws in Ghana (23 - 25 May, 2022)
This is a short course designed to introduce participants to the fundamental concepts and principles of direct tax laws in Ghana

•    Direct Tax Obligations of a Taxpayer
•    Assessments for Direct Taxes
•    Withholding Taxes Management
•    Enforcement and Collection of Direct Taxes
•    Offences and Penalties

 

THE NEW LAND ACT (PROPERTY OWNERSHIP IN GHANA: THE NEW LANDS ACT) (to be scheduled)

  • General matters in immovable property law and the new rules on interests in land

  • Customary interests and customary land management

  • Transfer of interests in land in general and the leasehold interest

  • Forms of recording and registration of interests in land

  • Acquisition of land by the State

  • Vesting and de-vesting of Stoll lands and emerging issues and temporary occupation of land

  • Sanctions regime

  • (the status of caretakers and what the law says about the new lands act)

 

TEACHING METHODOLOGY

All courses will be taught in person however virtual options will be available for those who will prefer that medium of instructions.

CERTIFICATES

Participants who successfully complete the courses will be awarded certificates of participation by the university of Ghana School of Law.

 

TEACHING FACILITIES

The UGSoL is equipped with large and spacious classrooms which are airconditioned and well ventilated.

Participants will have access to the UGSoL Law Library which is the largest and most well stocked Law Library in the country.
