Visiting Research Fellowship in Ocean Governance and Law of the Sea

Background
The University of Ghana's Ocean Governance Project, in collaboration with the Norwegian Centre for Law of the Sea (NCLOS), is pleased to announce the availability of a Visiting Research Fellowship. This prestigious fellowship offers a unique opportunity for researchers with a keen interest in ocean governance and the Law of the sea to undertake advanced research at the NCLOS in Tromsø, Norway.

Objective
The primary objective of the fellowship is to support outstanding researchers in the field of ocean governance and the law of the sea, foster international collaboration and enhancing academic exchange between Ghana and Norway.

Fellowship Duration
The fellowship is for a period of two (2) months, during which the selected researcher will be based at the Norwegian Centre for Law of the Sea, Tromso, Norway.
The fellowship is scheduled to take place during the months of October and November 2024.

Eligibility Criteria
•    Applicants must be researchers or postgraduate students (Master’s or PhD level) with a demonstrated interest in ocean governance and the law of the sea.
•    Strong academic background in international law, law of the sea, environmental law, marine sciences or related disciplines.
•    Proven research capabilities and a track record of academic excellence.
•    Proficiency in English (both written and spoken).

Scope of Work
During the fellowship, the selected researcher will be expected to:
1.    Conduct independent research on a topic related to ocean governance and the law of the sea.
2.    Engage with NCLOS faculty and participate in academic discussions, seminars, and workshops.
3.    Produce a publishable research paper or report to be published by the NCLOS and/or the University of Ghana.
4.    Collaborate with other researchers and contribute to ongoing projects at the NCLOS.
5.    Present findings and progress at designated intervals to the NCLOS and the University of Ghana Ocean Governance Project.
6.    Upon return, be affiliated to the Ocean Governance Project (OGP), UG as a researcher.

1.    A cover letter explaining their interest in the fellowship and how it aligns with their research goals.
2.    A detailed CV highlighting academic achievements, research experience, and publications.
3.    A research proposal (maximum 2 pages) outlining the intended research project during the fellowship.
4.    Two letters of recommendation from academic or professional references.
5.    Academic transcripts and certificates.

Submission Deadline
All applications must be submitted by 13th August 2024. Late applications will not be considered.

Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed by a selection committee comprising representatives from the University of Ghana Ocean Governance Project and the Norwegian Centre for Law of the Sea. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted for an interview.
