Admissions Requirement Overview

Admission to the University of Ghana School of Law requires a solid academic background. High school graduates must have excellent grades to qualify. For postgraduate programmes, a bachelor's degree and, often, some professional experiences are necessary. Additionally, all candidates must pass an entrance examination and an interview to demonstrate their aptitude for legal studies.


 
REQUIREMENTS FOR UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMME

(A) SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL INTAKES

(i) Admission Requirements

 Selection of Senior High School applicants into the LLB programme is based on performance in the WASSCE.

(ii) Graduation Requirements

 A student shall be required to carry a minimum workload of 15 credits and a maximum of 18 credits per semester. To graduate therefore, a student will be required to obtain a minimum of 120 credits and a maximum of 144 credits.

 


 
REQUIREMENTS FOR POST-FIRST DEGREE LL.B PROGRAMME

B) POST FIRST DEGREE INTAKES 2024/2025 ACADEMIC YEAR

(i) Admissions Requirements

The entry requirement for the LL.B Post-First Degree (PFD) Programme is a good first degree from a recognised University. A recognised University refers to all Universities accredited by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC). Suitably qualified applicants are required to participate in a selection examination and an interview.

(ii) Promotion Requirements from Level 200 to 400

a. Pass: A student is deemed to have passed, if he/she has a minimum of 30 credits and a maximum of 42 credits of core courses and electives at the end of Level 200.

b. Withdrawal: A student who does not pass as prescribed by (2a) shall be asked by the Registrar to withdraw from the University.

(iii) Requirements for Graduation (LLB)

A student shall be deemed to have satisfied the requirements for graduation if:

a) He/she has satisfied all General University and School requirements;

b) He/she has accumulated a minimum of 90 credits, including all core courses;

c) He/she must not have failed any of core courses (where failure means a grade below D);

d) He/she must not have failed more than 12 credits of elective courses (where failure means a grade below D).

 

Qualification

The minimum entry is a Second Class (Lower Division) Degree in any discipline from a recognized University (i.e. Universities recognized and/or accredited by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC).

The DEADLINE for the submission of applications and supporting documents online is 11:59 p.m. or 23:59 GMT on Saturday, 31st May 2025.

Date for Entrance Examination: Saturday, 14th June 2025.

Dates for Selection Interviews: Tuesday, 1st July to Friday, 4th July 2025

Applicants should kindly take note that the dates for the Entrance Examinations and Interviews are provisional.

 

 

 
REQUIREMENTS FOR MASTER PROGRAMME

 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

  • First degree from a recognized University.
  • Shortlisting / Interview
  • M.A.     – proven interest, exposure or experience in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR).
  • LL.M.    – Bachelor of laws degree or its equivalent.
