History of UGSoL

The University of Ghana School of Law (UGSoL) is the premier school of law in Ghana. UGSoL was first established as a department of the Faculty of Social Studies in the 1958/59 Academic Year. It became a Faculty in 1960/61 and then eventually a full-fledged School in the 2014/15 academic year. UGSoL has over the years undergone significant changes—offering several undergraduate (LL.B.) and post-graduate (M.A., LL.M. and PhD) programmes—and continues to evolve in response to the changing educational environment.

Dean's Welcome Message

In November 1993, I embarked on my journey here at the University of School of Law with excitement and uncertainty. Despite starting our LLB programme amid a strike action by lecturers, and enduring another year-long strike halfway through our studies, my classmates and I persevered. Many of us utilized this hiatus to develop skills and serve our communities, demonstrating resilience that has become a hallmark of our alumni.

Your journey at the School of Law comes at an extraordinary time in history. The challenges we have all faced in the last couple of years have prepared you well for the academic, social, spiritual, and emotional demands of law school. At the University of Ghana School of Law, our primary goal is to provide a safe and productive teaching and learning environment. We also aim to expand our facilities and enhance the quality of education through international experiences and collaborations.
