Dr. Abdallah Ali-Nakyea Attends ICAG Conference

Our Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana School of Law, Dr. Abdallah Ali-Nakyea recently attended the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG) Conference held at the Trade Fair Centre in Accra on May 24th, 2022 as a key resource person and spoke extensively on taxation, accountability and what role accountants should be playing in the transformation of Africa.
The conference was organized to create a platform for accountants to build capacity, discuss trends in their field of work, acquire new skills and knowledge in this fast-changing digital world. It also offered the opportunity for seasoned experts in the field of accounting to share ground-breaking insights to help redefine the profession.

Dr Ali-Nakyea, who spoke on the conference theme “Accountancy and Accountability, Transforming Africa’s Economies”, asserted that there is a direct link between economic performance and digitization, thus accountants need to fully embrace technological developments in their line of work to bring about the necessary transformation in the continent.

“The accounting profession has moved far beyond mere bookkeeping and payroll, and like its partner, procurement, it is taking an increasingly strategic role for forward-thinking businesses. While some pundits say accounting has a dim future in the digital world of tomorrow, technologies such as cloud- based data management, process automation and advanced analytics are actually poised to further elevate accountants in new and empowering ways, giving tomorrow’s accountant the platform to be more relevant, strategic and creative than ever” he said.

He called on all accountants to realize that their functions were not limited only to the disbursement and receipt of funds but that they were a part of the overall management team, where ever they found themselves and must work to the attainment of the goals and objectives of organizations and lead in the economic transformation agenda of the country and Africa.
