MASTER OF LAWS (LL.M.) IN ALTERNATIVE DISPUTE RESOLUTION & MASTER OF ARTS (M.A.) IN ALTERNATIVE DISPUTE RESOLUTION
ALTERNATIVE DISPUTE RESOLUTION (M.A. & LL.M.)
The expansion of the private and public sectors of the Ghanaian economy has resulted in an increasingly high demand for degree specialisation in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Practice. ADR is, therefore, an essential growth catalyst that aids the development process of any economy by effectively, efficiently and quickly resolving commercial and non-commercial disputes. Additionally, ADR increases the efficiency and productivity of the judicial system thereby creating a robust legal regime in Ghana for the settlement of dispute. The policy, legal and regulatory frameworks, and the right practitioner approaches to ADR are, however, essential to enable an economy reap the touted benefits. It is in recognition of this that UGSoL has gone to great lengths to mount this ADR Masters programme.
The overall objectives of the MA/LL.M Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) programme are to:
1. Equip students with comprehensive knowledge of the primary forms of Alternative Dispute Resolution processes, as well as developments in adjudication and mixed processes;
2. Develop a solid understanding of interdisciplinary and comparative approaches to dispute resolution, drawing on the experiences of many societies and jurisdictions;
3. Develop mastery of domestic and international conventions and standards in the practice of ADR;
4. Build and instil valuable employability skills that can be readily applied to a wide range of careers in the field of ADR in local and cross-border transactions;
