January 23, 2026

The University of Ghana School of Law (UGSoL) officially ushered in its newly admitted students during the 2026 LLB Orientation held on Tuesday, 20th January 2026. Taking place at the UGSoL Auditorium, the event commenced with a warm welcome from the programme moderator, Kingsley Otu Amponsah (Vice President of the Law Students’ Union).

Addressing an audience of students, parents, staff and faculty, the Dean of the University of Ghana School of Law, Prof. Peter A. Atupare, congratulated the new cohort on their admission and reminded them that entry into the School of Law is a privilege that carries significant responsibility. He emphasised the demanding nature of legal education, urging students to approach their studies with discipline, diligence and respect for institutional rules and processes. Prof. Atupare also encouraged them to uphold integrity, professionalism and good character, and to take full advantage of the academic and administrative support systems available to them. His address set the tone for the orientation by reinforcing the values and standards that define the University of Ghana School of Law.

Following the Dean’s address, the orientation moved into a substantive exploration of the legal world, delivered through presentations by various members of the UGSoL faculty including Prof. Thomas Stephens, Dr. Kweku Ainuson, Mr. William Demitia, Mr. Courage Asabagna and Ms. Phoebe Ayitey. Together, they mapped out the past, present, and future of the legal profession for the incoming students.

The session continued with a comprehensive presentation on academic and administrative procedures by the School Administrator, Ms Susie Lamptey. She guided students on deferment of studies, remarking of examination scripts, introductory and attestation letters, and the acquisition of electronic access cards. Emphasis was placed on following approved procedures through the Academic Affairs Directorate and the Student Information System, observing timelines, paying prescribed fees, and awaiting official approvals. She cautioned against frivolous applications, highlighted the consequences of late academic registration, and underscored the importance of professionalism, respect for staff, and strict adherence to institutional procedures and deadlines.

Ms. Rachel Haizel delivered a session on Students with Special Needs, highlighting the School’s commitment to inclusivity and equal access to academic life. Following the discussions on academic growth, Dr. Fafa Delight Agbeko led an important session on the University’s Code of Conduct, focusing specifically on the impact of professional appearance. She reminded the Class of 2026 that their attire is a reflection of their personal brand and the esteemed institution they represent.

The programme concluded with a presentation by the Law Students’ Union (LSU) President, Nahum Agyepong who shared practical insights on how students can get the most out of their law school experience. The session encouraged active participation in academic and co-curricular activities, effective time management, collaboration with peers, and the importance of maintaining balance and discipline throughout the programme. The President also introduced the LSU executives, outlining their roles and reaffirming the Union’s commitment to representing students’ interests and providing support throughout their time at the School.

The LLB Orientation is an annual event held to provide students with a comprehensive introduction to the academic expectations, professional values and administrative processes of the University of Ghana School of Law, formally marking the beginning of their journey into legal education and professional development.
