Kimathi and Partners Donates to UGSoL Library

A leading law firm in Ghana, Kimathi and Partners, has made a donation of books to the University of Ghana School of Law (UGSoL) library.

The grant ceremony held on Thursday, 6th April, 2023, at the School’s library, is part of a commitment made by the law firm to resource UGSoL’s library every year.

Making the donation on behalf of the law firm, Akua Pinamang Addae, a lawyer with the firm, recounted events that led to the firm making the commitment to support the School’s Library annually saying the promise was made by a Managing Partner of the firm, Kimathi Kuenyehia in 2019 as a way of supporting the learning of law, particularly at his alma mater, UGSoL.

"Mr. Kuenyehia understands the challenges facing students, particularly when it comes to the right books to read, and because he has been a student before, he understands their plight. This is, therefore, his way of helping the university to expand and improve on its materials, as well as nurture the students on their journey to become lawyers. Sometimes these students want a particular book to read but then, it becomes difficult for them to get access to them and so we are honoured as a law firm to present these books to the library," she said.

Receiving the donation on behalf of UGSoL, Mr. Joseph Antah, the School’s Librarian (who represented the Dean of UGSoL, Prof. Raymond A. Atuguba), thanked the firm for their continuous support to the School for the past four (4) years.

“Since 2019, Mr. Kimathi has been committed to advancing the study of law at the University of Ghana School of Law. His continuous donations in collaboration with the Kimathi and Partners Corporate Attorneys Law Firm, has helped fill important gaps in the collection of books in the School’s library making teaching and learning easier for both students and faculty members,” he stated.

He called for more support from other firms and organisations and encouraged students to make good use of the library and to read extensively to become very learned lawyers.

The donation, worth US$2000.00, covered a total of ten (10) books in the field of Environmental Law, Humanitarian Law and Gender and the Law.

Present at the brief ceremony were the School Administrator, Ms. Susie Lamptey as well as other staff of UGSoL Library.
