The University of Ghana School of Law (UGSoL) marked a significant milestone on Friday, 24th July 2026, as it celebrated the graduation of its 2026 cohort during the University of Ghana Congregation held at the Great Hall.

The day's celebrations featured two memorable ceremonies. In the morning, UGSoL conferred degrees on 217 graduates from the third cohort of its Twin Master's Programmes, while the afternoon ceremony celebrated the achievements of 303 Bachelor of Laws (LLB) graduates who successfully completed their undergraduate legal education.

The congregation brought together members of the University community, faculty, staff, family, and friends to honour the accomplishments of the graduating class. The ceremonies marked the culmination of years of rigorous academic training, practical legal education, and personal growth, as graduates celebrated the successful completion of demanding programmes designed to prepare them for leadership in the legal profession.

Delivering the keynote address at the postgraduate ceremony, Prof. Mary Adu-Poku, a prominent Ghanaian scientist specialising in Medical Physics and Radiation Protection, inspired graduates to embrace uncertainty, remain resilient, and pursue opportunities with confidence.

Drawing on her own experience of successfully transitioning between professional fields, she encouraged graduates to remain committed to continuous growth.
"Take the first step and remain committed. Success begins with action. Value your time. Effective time management increases productivity," she advised.
She further reminded graduates that careers rarely follow a predetermined path.

"The future will not always unfold as you planned, yet some of life's greatest opportunities are found on roads we never intended to travel. I encourage you to uphold values that will endure long after today's celebration."
Prof. Adu-Poku also urged graduates to cultivate resilience as an essential professional attribute. 
Addressing the undergraduate graduating class, Prof. Maame A. S. Mensa-Bonsu, Associate Professor of Law, Founding Head of Ashesi University's Law with Public Policy Programme, and renowned public intellectual, reflected on the responsibilities that accompany the legal profession.

She noted that while the title of "law student" often carries prestige and admiration, graduation signifies the beginning of a greater responsibility. "The student part of the label often shields you from the great responsibilities attached to the profession. Now, as of today, you have lost that shield," she remarked, encouraging graduates to embrace the ethical obligations that come with their new status.
Representing the LLB graduating class, Muhammad Abdul-Mujib, who graduated with an outstanding CGPA of 3.81, delivered a reflective and inspiring valedictory address. He challenged his colleagues to view their legal education not merely as an academic achievement but as a lifelong responsibility to society.
"As we leave this University, the truest measure of our education will not be how much law we can recall but how wisely and generously we choose to use it. Let this degree be more than a reward for what we have completed; let it be a reminder of what we now owe to mankind—to proceed with integrity, to treat others with fairness, and to turn our own opportunities into opportunities for those waiting for their doors to open."

The valedictorian also expressed heartfelt appreciation to the lecturers, administrative staff, families, and friends whose encouragement and sacrifices made the graduates' journey possible.
The ceremonies concluded in an atmosphere of celebration as graduates commemorated the milestone with family and friends through photographs, embraces, and shared reflections. The Class of 2026 now joins UGSoL's growing global alumni community, whose members continue to distinguish themselves across legal practice, academia, public service, business, and international organisations.

As they embark on the next stage of their professional journeys—whether proceeding to the Professional Law Course, advanced studies, or careers across diverse sectors—the graduates carry with them the values and training that define a UGSoL education.
