UGSoL Launches Academic Exchange Programme with University of Passau to Enhance Global Legal Education

November 12, 2025

The University of Ghana School of Law (UGSoL) has launched a new academic exchange in collaboration with the Faculty of Law at the University of Passau, Germany. This programme offers students an immersive international experience, broadening their academic horizons and cultural understanding.

Running from November 2025 to July 2027, the initiative will offer twelve selected students an intensive academic and cultural exchange experience in Passau. As part of the selection process, a call for participants was circulated across all student platforms on 22nd July 2025, inviting applications for the exchange programme. Interested students were required to submit, by 20th August 2025, a written statement of between 500 and 800 words on the topic:

“How participation in the exchange programme at the University of Passau will support your academic and personal development, your anticipated challenges and strategies for addressing them, and the unique contributions you intend to make as a cultural and academic ambassador of UGSoL.”

The essay aimed to assess candidates’ self-awareness, critical reflection, and ability to articulate their academic and personal goals in relation to the programme, and a total of 46 applications were received. Most applications came from undergraduate LLB students, with two from the Post-First-Degree LLB stream, one from a Master’s student, and two from visually impaired applicants, reflecting the programme’s commitment to inclusivity and accessibility.

Following the collation and review of all applications, applicants were divided into three groups and invited for in-person interviews, which were conducted over a three-day period from 8th to 10th September 2025.
