University of Gdansk Faculty of Law and Administration delegates visit the University of Ghana School of Law

After a highly successful exchange programme, during which faculty and staff from the University of Ghana School of Law (UGSoL) visited the University of Gdansk Faculty of Law and Administration in Poland, we were delighted to extend a warm welcome to a distinguished delegation from the University of Gdansk Faculty of Law and Administration, just two weeks later. This mutual exchange was facilitated through the Erasmus+ Programme, which has contributed to the fostering of international collaboration and academic exchange between our universities.

Led by the Vice-Dean, Dr. hab. Marcin Wiszowaty, and esteemed Professors Dr. Hab. Edvardas Juchnevicius and Dr. hab. Przemysław Panfil, the delegation engaged in various activities to promote collaboration and strengthen ties between our universities.

The visit commenced with a meeting with our Dean, Prof. Raymond Atuguba, followed by a courtesy call on Prof. Daniel Ofori, the Provost of the College of Humanities. Prof. Daniel Ofori commended Prof. Raymond Atuguba for the progressive work being done by UGSoL, particularly in the realm of international partnerships and he assured the University of Gdansk delegation that they had come to the right place. The discussions covered a broad spectrum of topics, ranging from the need for heightened academic collaborations, encompassing faculty, staff, and student mobility between both universities, to the development of joint degree programmes, curricula, teaching, research initiatives, and publications. All parties present agreed on the imperative need to strengthen the relationship between the two universities, extending the collaboration beyond UGSoL and the University of Gdansk Faculty of Law and Administration.

Three insightful seminars were held for students in both the undergraduate and masters programmes during this visit, conducted by the visiting professors on the following topics: “Tax Bytes: Deciphering International Tax Law in the Digital Economy Era,” “Legal Ledger: Unraveling the Intricacies of the Treasury Bonds Market,” and “Navigating the Interplay Between International Law and Effective Lobbying Strategies.” Interactive sessions were also organised with our faculty, staff, and students.

In addition to the academic engagements, the delegation paid a courtesy call on Prof. Eric Osei-Assibey, the Dean of the University of Ghana International Programmes Office (IPO). The discussions echoed the sentiments of the earlier meetings with our Dean and the Provost. Prof. Eric Osei-Assibey emphasised the need to enhance opportunities for student mobility and leverage innovative teaching methods such as capitalising on the hybrid teaching system, a strategy actively pursued by both UGSoL and the University of Gdansk.

As part of their visit, the delegation explored some of Ghana's monumental locations, including the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum, further enriching the cultural exchange. The trip concluded with a shared commitment to forge stronger ties between UGSoL and the University of Gdansk Faculty of Law and Administration.

We look forward to the continued success and collaborative efforts led by our International Partnerships Office and the collaborative initiatives that will undoubtedly emerge from this enriching experience.
