University of Ghana Appoints New UGSoL Heads of Departments

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, has appointed three (3) new Heads of Departments for the three (3) newly set-up departments at the University of Ghana School of law (UGSoL).  They are Prof. Peter Atudiwe Atupare as Head of the Department of Public Law, Prof. Thomas Kojo Stephens, Head of Department of Private Law, and Dr. Kweku Ainuson, Head of Department of International Legal Studies. 

Prof. Atupare is an Associate Professor at the University of Ghana and a former Dean of the Faculty of Law, University of Cape Coast. His research interests include Constitutional Law, Jurisprudence, Law of Torts, Conflict of Laws, Human Rights, Socio-Legal Studies, Law and Society, Administrative Law and Health Law and Ethics. He was voted the best lecturer by the University of Ghana Law Students Union for the 2022/2023 academic year. 

Prof. Stephens is an Associate Professor at the University of Ghana School of Law, and the Coordinator of the Master of Laws and Arts programmes in Energy Law. He chairs the University’s Disciplinary Board for Junior Members and is also a senior partner at Stobe Law, where he heads the energy law team. 

Dr. Ainuson who was previously an Assistant Professor at the Mississippi State University, is currently a Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana School of Law. As a legal practitioner, his expertise lies mainly in Transactional and Regulatory Law. He has also secured landmark decisions at the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court of Ghana in Tax Law, Company Law, Natural Resources Law among others.
Commenting on the appointments, Prof. Raymond Atuguba, Dean of UGSoL said, “The new Heads of Departments come with a fresh breath of great expertise, passion, and a track record of excellence. The appointments are timely and aligned with the strategic objectives of UGSoL. I am confident that they will impact significantly on the positioning of the School”.
