About

Dr Prince Obiri-Korang is a Senior Lecturer in Law at the University of Ghana School of Law (UGSoL) and the Coordinator of the LLM in Law and Development Programme. He also serves as a Senior Research Fellow at the Research Centre for Private International Law in Emerging Countries, Faculty of Law, University of Johannesburg (UJ), South Africa.
Dr Obiri-Korang obtained his Doctor of Laws (LLD) degree from the University of Johannesburg in 2020, completing the programme in record time. His doctoral research, supervised by the distinguished Professor Dr Dr Dr Michael Martinek (then Chair of the Institute for European Law, Saarland University, Germany), focused on choice of law rules in international commercial contracts within the field of Private International Law of Contracts. He was a recipient of the prestigious Global Excellence Stature (GES) bursary for both his doctoral and Master of Laws (LLM) studies in International Commercial Law – UJ’s flagship postgraduate programme.
During his doctoral studies, Dr Obiri-Korang served as a Research Fellow at the Institute for European Law, Saarland University, in Saarbrücken, Germany. Upon completing his doctorate, he was awarded a postdoctoral fellowship at the Research Centre for Private International Law in Emerging Countries, where he continues to contribute as a Senior Research Fellow.
He lectures annually as a guest lecturer on the University of Johannesburg’s flagship LLM in International Commercial Law programme. He supervises LLM dissertations across several universities and has served as an assessor for numerous postgraduate theses.
Dr Obiri-Korang was twice awarded the University of Johannesburg Postdoctoral Research Fellow of the Year Award (Faculty of Law) – in 2021 and 2024 – becoming the only postdoctoral fellow to have received the award twice in the Faculty’s history.
At the University of Ghana School of Law, he teaches International Commercial Law, Banking Law, Commercial Conflict of Laws, Alternative Dispute Resolution, and Globalisation and Commercial Contracts. His research interests include Private International Law, International Commercial Law, Contract Law, and the interaction between law and development.
