
The University of Ghana School of Law (UGSoL) is organizing five short training courses from 16th November to 16th December, 2022. The aim of these courses is to provide participants with the requisite knowledge to address frequently encountered legal problems in the country.
These courses are open to members of the bench, the bar, governmental institutions, banking institutions and companies, non-governmental institutions, traditional authorities and the general public.
DATA PROTECTION
Personal data of participants will not be shared or disclosed to any third parties external to the University of Ghana. The UGSoL will process participants’ data in accordance with the Data Protection laws of Ghana.
COURSE REQUIREMENTS
Our training courses are taught in English so participants must have a good command of the language.

1. BASIC LAW FOR LIFE SERIES (21st - 25th November, 2022)
The Basic law for life series is a course designed to introduce participants to the relevant areas of law that directly or indirectly affect their daily activities.
Audience
This training programme is open to all members of the general public.

2. CORPORATE GOVERNANCE UNDER THE NEW COMPANIES ACT (16th-18th November, 2022)
This course is designed to introduce participants to the basic principles of corporate governance and provides an overview of the corporate governance framework under the Companies Act, 2019 (Act 992).
Audience
This course is designed for judges, lawyers, investors, staff of banking and government institutions, businessmen and women, and all members of the general public.

- Corporate Agency problems and incentives for sound insider behaviour
- The linkages between sound corporate governance and business success
- The rules of corporate governance under the new Companies Act, 2019 (Act 992)

3. ALTERNATIVE DISPUTE RESOLUTION TECHNIQUES IN BUSINESS (12th-16th December, 2022)
Alternative Dispute Resoultion Techniques in Business is a short course designed to introduce participants to the strategies and techniques required to successfully resolve disputes outside the traditional legal and administrative fora.
Audience
This course is designed for investors, staff of banking and government institutions, businessmen and women, executives and members of labour unions and organised groups, and all members of the general public.

4. FUNDAMENTALS OF TAXATION IN GHANA (5th-7th December, 2022)
This is a short course designed to introduce participants to the fundamental concepts and principles of direct tax laws in Ghana.
Audience
The training is targeted at lawyers, accountants, tax practitioners, reglatory and compliance officers, management staff of financial and government institutions and all members of the general public.

5. THE NEW LAND ACT (28th November-2nd December, 2022)
Property Ownership in Ghana: The New Lands Act is a short course designed to introduce participants to selected topical emerging issues arising from the enactment of the lands act, 2020 ( Act 1036).
Audience
Real estate agents, landowners, surveyors, regulatory and compliance officers, and all members of the general public.

- Types of interests and rights in land in Ghana
- Acquisition and resgistration of interests and title in land
- Interest of licensees and caretakers of land
- Spousal Property Rights

TEACHING METHODOLOGY
All courses will be taught In-Person, however Virtual option (Microsoft Teams) will be available for those who would prefer that medium of instruction. Participants who would prefer the virtual option should kindly get Microsoft Teams application installed on their devices.
ASSESSMENT
Our courses assess students via coursework, presentations, case studies, role plays and discussions. Please see each course webpage for further information.
CERTIFICATES
Participants who successfully complete the courses will be awarded certificates of participation by the University of Ghana School of Law.
TEACHING FACILITIES
The UGSoL is equipped with large and spacious classrooms which are air-conditioned and well ventilated.
Participants will have access to the UGSoL Law Library which is the largest and most well stocked Law Library in the country.
