INTERNATIONAL LAW (LL.M. & M.A.)

MASTER OF LAWS (LL.M.) IN INTERNATIONAL LAW & MASTER OF ARTS (M.A.) IN INTERNATIONAL LAW

INTERNATIONAL LAW (LL.M. & M.A.)

Despite the numerous challenges to its effectiveness, International Law remains the most potent weapon to prevent armed conflicts between countries and help them realise their mutual prosperity. The interconnectedness of modern States and the pursuit of world peace and prosperity have resulted in the increasing need for governments and organisations to respond to complex international legal frameworks to manage inter-state relationships between countries. The UGSoL’s International Law postgraduate programme provides students with an advanced understanding of International Law and how its interaction with international relations impacts upon international politics.

The overall objectives of the MA/LL.M International Law programme are to:
1.    Improve students’ capacity to engage with debates and vexed questions in current global affairs that border on the normativity and legitimacy of international law.
2.    Critique the universality and relevance of received learning on foundations of International Law.
3.    Help students improve their skills and knowledge which can be applied in further study and legal practice in public service or industry.
4.    Provide students with further opportunity to undertake research at an advanced level.
